A play on the phrase "the medium is the message" coined by Marshall McLuhan (Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, 1964), Message & Medium: the interplay of type and art simplifies the controversial phrase in terms of fine art. Sometimes a "medium" helps refine a "message" and vice versa. But we as a society are comfortable recognizing familiar type and shapes. We can dissect them, and further appreciate the beauty of letterform and craft in all mediums.
